Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is on a tear in Ligue 1 play this season. He currently leads the league in goals with nine and is on pace for another 30-goal campaign. However, Mbappe has not been able to carry this strong play over to the UEFA Champions League competition.
The French forward has yet to log a goal in the Champions League over three games so far this season. But this is not a new issue for the forward. After not scoring a goal in PSG’s recent home Champions League group stage fixture against RB Leipzig, Mbappe extended his current streak to eight straight games without scoring in this competition, which dates back to last season. He last scored a Champions League goal during the team’s return group stage fixture against Galatasaray last season.
As RMC Sport points out, Mbappe has now gone 619 straight minutes without scoring in this competition, which is a surprising figure.
However, Mbappe is chipping in with goal contributions at the least. He has logged four assists over these eight games, which includes the game-winning assist during PSG’s Champions League quarterfinal win against Atalanta last season.
For PSG, this drought in goals from the forward should not be a grand concern for the club just yet. Mbappe is one player who has the potential to quickly turn the tide with his potent play.
