Paris Saint-Germain had a roller-coaster summer transfer window. For one, the club had a need to sign a midfielder for depth. While the club was linked with a multitude of midfielders over the window, the club ended up signing both Rafinha and Danilo Pereira. However, the club also had an interest in signing current AS Monaco midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.
The Russian midfielder joined AS Monaco in 2018. Golovin is reliable when on the pitch for Monaco, but he has also dealt with multiple injury issues. Still, PSG had an interest in signing the midfielder to bolster its depth at the position. Oleg Artemov, Golovin’s agent, spoke to the Russian-based outlet Sport Express about PSG’s preliminary interest in signing the midfielder.
“There have been no specific and official proposals either from PSG or Barcelona,” Artemov said. “However, preliminary conversations, contacts with their representatives did take place. This is a kind of information gathering, probing the soil from the side of these teams.”
While PSG missed out on signing Golovin, the club must be pleased at just how well both Rafinha and Pereira have accommodated to the club. Both players are showing just how much they can be relied on in key games.
