Former Barcelona sporting director Javier Bordas has been much talked about this week following his interview with Mundo Deportivo. For one, he touched on the Neymar transfer saga from 2019. He continued on with talking about last year’s drama-filled saga in an interview with Cadena Cope’s El Partidazo.
Bordas carried on by revealing the exact offer that almost pushed Paris Saint-Germain to sell Neymar after two seasons. There were plenty of rumors last year on the supposed players that were offered by Barcelona to PSG. But now, Bordas is revealing the players and transfer fee that the two sides went back and forth over.
“We offered PSG €110 million-plus [Jean Clair] Todibo, [Ivan] Rakitic and the loan of [Ousmane)]Dembele,” Bordas said. “PSG wanted €130m plus Todibo, Rakitic and Dembele on loan.
“Neymar was €20m away from coming back. Neymar’s father said that he would make up the difference but in the end that didn’t happen.”
Barcelona was extremely close to bringing back Neymar but in the end, he stayed put with PSG. He has since gone on to lead the club to multiple domestic trophy wins and a berth in last season’s UEFA Champions League final. This year, Barcelona did not make a reported attempt to sign Neymar. So, the Neymar transfer saga may be done with for now.
