RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku will return to the French capital for the first time since departing for greener pastures when he left Paris Saint-Germain for RB Leipzig for a €13-million transfer fee.
In an interview with Kicker (via Canal Supporters), the 22-year-old discussed that he has no regrets leaving the capital club searching for a more significant role. Something that wouldn’t happen with Les Parisiens.
“I have played over 50 matches, scored goals, given assists, reached the Champions League semifinals, and played for the top of the Bundesliga table,” Nkunku said. “Changing clubs was not such a bad idea. Now I can say that it is better to leave your comfort zone to grow taller.”
Nkunku did get an opportunity to face his youth club a couple of months ago when both squads faced each other in the UEFA Champions League semifinals. The 22-year-old has another crack at trying to beat his former club when Leipzig visits the French capital with second place in Group H on the line.
Both clubs have lost to Manchester United FC; however, both have defeated İstanbul Başakşehir. A win for either squad will put them in the qualification position alongside The Red Devils with three more fixtures left in the tournament’s group stage phase.
