After reeling off a five-game winning streak in Ligue 1 play, Paris Saint-Germain came into its UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against Manchester United with plenty of momentum. But in the end, PSG put out a lackluster performance in the 2-1 home loss to Manchester United.
PSG is currently dealing with a multitude of injuries as several players were ruled out for the contest against Manchester United. Still, the players did not use it as an excuse coming into the contest. For PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe, he was not looking for excuses either following the game. In his post-game comments (via RMC Sport), Kimpembe spoke about the team’s frustrations over the contest.
“There are no explanations, we just weren’t good tonight,” Kimpembe said. “We were not in the duels, we were late in the defensive returns and that’s it. It pays off at such a level and we can only blame ourselves.
“We weren’t surprised but we weren’t good, regardless of the team in front. We did not approach this match well and not finished well either.”
Kimpembe is certainly disappointed with the result but knows that there are still five Champions League group stage fixtures to be played with a chance to turn the tide.
“It’s a shame to lose points at home like that and we will have to raise our heads for the next rounds,” Kimpembe said.
PSG will return to Champions League group stage action next week when it faces Basaksehir F.K. in an away contest. This upcoming fixture for PSG is now a must-win one for the club.
