‘We Are Very Demanding of Ourselves’ — Tuchel on PSG’s Mentality for the Champions League Group Stage This Season

Paris Saint-Germain is already facing mounting pressure in this season’s UEFA Champions League. Following the loss to Manchester United, PSG currently stands in third place in its Champions League group. The club is now slated to take on Istanbul Basaksehir in an upcoming pivotal group stage fixture for both teams.

Manager Thomas Tuchel is under heavy pressure to turn the tide following its opening group stage loss. The German manager knows that his side must perform better against Basaksehir in order to deflect away from the criticism that the club has faced as of late. Tuchel spoke further (via Le Parisien) at a pre-match press conference about the team’s approach for its upcoming key fixture against the Turkish side.

“But the season in the Champions League is clear, we are very demanding of ourselves,” Tuchel said. “I hope the loss to Manchester United reminds us that you have to give your all mentally, physically to win. We are playing against the Turkish champion, a team with experience and intensity. But we are here to show that we want to win and that we are able to play better.”

PSG came into this season’s Champions League season as the clear favorites to win its group. The club must now show that it is more than capable of winning the rest of its fixtures in the group and also finish at the top of the table amongst the rest of the three teams there.
