In football, comparisons are immediate, and just as in France, there is talk of the “new Zidane.” The new offensive talents in Brazil are sometimes earning the nickname the “new Neymar.”
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is being heralded as the next big thing to come out of the South American country. After being called up by the Brazil National Team, the 19-year-old is called the “new Neymar,” a phrase that the young forward doesn’t want since he wants to carve out his career without the pressures of an entire country as Goal relayed the words of the Brazil international.
“Since the start of my career when I started at Santos, they have already compared me to the ‘new Neymar’ and with Robinho, I have always had this weight on me,” Rodrygo said.
“I’ve always said I wanted to be Rodrygo and make my story, Robinho and Neymar are big idols of Santos and all the places they’ve played. I’m just getting started and I think there is only one Neymar. I’ve always had that weight on me, but I just want to be Rodrygo.”
