Following their impressive showings as of late for Paris Saint-Germain, Marco Verratti and Alessandro Florenzi each earned call-ups for Italy’s international fixtures this month, the federation announced on its official website.
The two PSG talents are expected to earn starts for Italy as it will take on Poland and Netherlands in UEFA Nations League group stage play. Italy currently stands at first place in Group A1, so wins in both contests could very well clinch the team a spot in the Nations League knockout stage. Verratti and Florenzi have not won a trophy with Italy, so this could possibly be the best chance that they will have to win at the international level.
Before Italy takes on both group stage foes, it will face Moldova in an international friendly on Oct. 7. Both Verratti and Florenzi likely will not feature in this contest as manager Roberto Mancini may prefer to keep them fresh and ready for the pivotal Nations League fixtures.
