The 2020-21 season hasn’t started the way Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel was hoping.
Les Parisiens got off to a slow start; they fell to Olympique de Marseille for the first time in nine years, lost once again at home to Manchester United FC in the UEFA Champions League. Overall the squad isn’t playing all that well under the German manager this season.
After their 2-1 loss to The Red Devils on matchday one of the Champions League group stage, the French football media began sharpening their pitchforks as they unleashed their criticism towards Tuchel.
France Football journalist Nabil Djellit made an appearance on L’Équipe du Soir, where he pointed out some of Tuchel’s embarrassing results as PSG’s manager. For example, Djellit pointed to the loss to Stade Rennais in the 2019 Coupe de France final, adding that Les Rouge et Noir hadn’t won anything in 50 years until they defeated PSG last year.
“Tuchel is the coach of all the hiccups at PSG, he lost in the final of the Coupe de France against Rennes, a team that had won nothing in 50 years, he lost against OM when it had been nine years since that had happened, he lost against RC Lens it’s been 16 years since it happened,” Djellit said.
“I’m not talking about the match against Manchester, Tuesday they lost at home in the group stage. Will Leonardo let Thomas Tuchel be the first coach to see PSG eliminate in the group stage? I’m asking the question. Losing in Istanbul would be catastrophic for PSG. It can be very expensive.”
