Report: PSG Interested in Ajax Defender for a Possible Late Transfer Deal

Paris Saint-Germain remains in the hunt for a defender and a versatile midfielder over the soon-to-be-closed current transfer window. But the club could solve both needs with the signing of a versatile Argentine talent.

PSG is showing interest in signing Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS.

Martinez has experience in playing for Ajax as both a defensive midfielder and a center-back. For instance, he played in the midfield over much of Ajax’s UEFA Champions League group stage run last season. He later went on to feature as a center-back for many of the team’s latter fixtures over its Eredivisie league run.

If PSG is seriously considering signing Martinez, it may need to overpay and offer a high transfer fee for the talent. Ajax had just signed Martinez last year, and he is a key starter for the club. The Dutch club very likely has no interest in offloading Martinez with the current transfer window set to close this week, so PSG may have to offer up whatever is left from its transfer budget to sign the Argentine.
