Report: Neymar and Mbappe Expressed Concern With PSG’s Lack of Activity Over the Summer Transfer Window

For much of the summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain remained relatively quiet. PSG had several needs in a couple of positions, so the club had to sign players for depth before the window closed. But even as PSG continued to be linked with a variety of players, the club did not pull the trigger on several such deals. This wound up frustrating several players on the team.

Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Marquinhos all privately expressed concerns to PSG sporting director Leonardo over the recent summer transfer window about the board’s plans in signing players, according to a report from L’Equipe (via RMC Sport). The players were straightforward in their concerns on why the club was not being more aggressive in signing talents, especially as the team had just lost four first-team players via free transfers.

Due to financial difficulties, PSG wound up signing two players on free transfer agreements and another three on season-long loan deals. But according to the report, this did not end up satisfying other players on the team, who questioned why the club had to settle for these deals.

The recent coronavirus shutdown impacted many powerhouse clubs from a financial perspective. Thus, teams such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus did not go all out to sign multiple high-priced players as usual. This was the case for PSG as well since the financial implications from the shutdown in play was a key factor to the club’s conservative approach to the recent transfer window.
