Paris Saint-Germain entered into its UEFA Champions League group stage fixture against Manchester United as the clear favorite to pick up all three points. But somehow, someway, Manchester United played the role of spoiler at the Parc des Princes with a 2-1 away win in the opener of Champions League group stage play for both teams.
For PSG, this loss snaps one of the most impressive Champions League streaks from the past decade-plus. This was PSG’s first Champions League group stage home loss since the 2004-2005 edition of the competition.

PSG previously lost a Champions League home group stage fixture on Dec. 2004 when the club fell to Russian side CSKA Moscow by a 3-1 final score.
This was PSG’s starting 11 for that fixture against Moscow.

PSG would then go seven straight seasons without featuring in the Champions League. The club did return to the competition in the 2012-2013 season. The French side kicked off its group stage campaign in that season with a 4-1 win against Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv. PSG opened its Champions League home group stage unbeaten streak with the win, as clubs such as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid later failed to pick up a victory at the Parc des Princes over this time period.
While Manchester United has now ended this streak, PSG sure will now look ahead with the aim of possibly finishing in first place in its Champions League group.
