During a week in which France and Turkey are clashing, Paris Saint-Germain will be facing İstanbul Başakşehir. Despite the ongoing tensions between both nations, it doesn’t seem to reflect how the two clubs see each other, at least from the Turkish perspective.
Göksel Gümüşdağ, president of Istanbul Başakşehir, spoke to Anadolu Agency (via Canal Supporters) over the 2-0 loss to RB Leipzig as the Turkish club will look to bounce back against the capital club as both will be looking for three points .
Gümüşdağ also states that the squad had individual errors which led to the lost. It will be interesting to see if they avoid these same mistakes against PSG, who will make Başakşehir pay if they commit them.
“When you watch the Leipzig game, there were individual errors, but the team was not crushed. She fought in the best possible way. We are in our 7th year, and we are still European. Every year we are making progress,” Gümüşdağ said.
“We are seen as the easy club of the group. But this is football, we are not too embarrassed by the draw. It is all an experience. Başakşehir is a club that is 6 years old, and thank goodness we are living that dream today in the Champions League.”
After discussing their match against RB Leipzig, Gümüşdağ discussed the relationship they have with Les Parisiens. The Başakşehir president made it known that they have a good relationship despite what’s going on in the political world.
“Therefore, we are going to go out onto the pitch and do whatever we can, welcome PSG in the best possible way,” Gümüşdağ said. “Paris Saint-Germain is our friend, especially the club president, Nasser. Therefore, we will be very happy to play such a great world club.”
