Former footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known to all as Pelé, commemorated his 80th birthday.

The Brazil international spent 18 years with Santos FC, where he scored 643 goals in 656 competitive appearances. He also netted 64 goals in 107 games for the New York Cosmos. Meanwhile, for the Brazil National Team, Pelé scored 77 goals and is the country’s top goalscorer of all time.

Neymar Jr. recently scored his 62nd goal for the Seleção as he passed Ronaldo for second place in Brazi’s all-time scoring list. The 28-year-old sent his fellow countryman and Santos FC alumni, Pelé, a happy birthday through his Twitter account

“Nobody compares to you. Thank you for everything you have done in football. Long live the king! Happy birthday king Pelé,” Neymar tweeted

The legend then took to his Twitter account to appreciate the happy birthday wish from Neymar.

“You are an enlightened boy. His magic and his joy have always enchanted me. We know how to make the game more beautiful. We are Brazilian. We are different. Thank you for the ‘tribute, Ney!,” Pelé tweeted.

Barring injuries or a drop in form, Neymar is within range of passing Pelé to become Brazil’s all-time leading goal scorer. However, for Brazilians, the PSG forward will have to deliver a FIFA World Cup if he wants to be held in the same breath as Pelé.
