After weeks of speculation on whether Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo would add a midfielder over the current transfer window, he wound up completing one shock move that not many expected to see. PSG signed Danilo Pereira on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese side FC Porto. The move also comes with a buy option, which PSG will have the chance to trigger at the end of the season.
For Pereira, this was a move that did not come with much convincing from PSG. When the reigning Ligue 1 champions came calling, Pereira was all for leaving Porto for a stint with PSG. He spoke further to PSG’s official website about just what persuaded him to move to the Ligue 1 side.
“What convinced me was the club itself, its greatness,” Pereira said. “The name of Paris Saint-Germain is well known in Europe and around the world. And that motivates any player. Paris Saint-Germain is considered a great club in Portugal.”
PSG had been in the market for a workhorse midfielder who could become a regular for manager Thomas Tuchel. Pereira hopes that his profile as a midfield talent will blend in with the rest of the team’s midfield unit.
“I’m someone who never gives up, on and off the pitch,” Pereira said. “During the match, I stay focused until the last second, I fight for every ball, and I want to play great football.”
Pereira won three trophies during his tenure with Porto. He hopes to add more to his trophy case over the now ongoing campaign with PSG.
“My ambition is to win all the trophies possible!” Pereira said. “I think it’s every player’s dream. You always have to dream big and want to conquer bigger goals.”
PSG is currently on an international break, so the club will have to wait a while to see Pereira make his official debut for Tuchel’s side.
