Paris Saint-Germain completed its final signing on deadline day when it brought in Rafinha from FC Barcelona. The deal between PSG and Rafinha is for three seasons, as this move is essentially a low-risk, high-reward deal.
Rafinha was not slated to receive much playing time with Barca this season, so joining PSG will present him with opportunities to potentially regularly feature for a powerhouse European club. This was not a difficult decision for Rafinha to make, as he agreed to sign with PSG when the club came in for the quite late transfer proposal. In speaking to PSG TV, Rafinha talked about just why he wanted to sign with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.
“The truth is, it’s a huge joy, I really wanted to come when I had the chance and the opportunity,” Rafinha said. “To be able to live this moment is incredible! Obviously, there is the nervousness that it represents to sign on the last day for a club of this stature, it was difficult but all ends well.”
Rafinha is coming off of a season-long loan stint with La Liga side Celta Vigo. Now with PSG, he has several goals that he would like to achieve over his tenure with PSG.
“Personally, I want to reach the same level as last season,” Rafinha said. “I feel capable of still being able to grow as a footballer, to learn from my teammates. Collectively, I come to win as many titles as possible.”
For now, Rafinha is set to prepare and remain fit over the current international break in preparations for the resumption of Ligue 1 play later this month. He is projected to provide more depth for the club in both the midfield and attack.
