Paris Saint-Germain kicked off its UEFA Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 loss to Manchester United. The performance from PSG was far from what has been seen from them over the past month in Ligue 1 play. PSG failed to orchestrate a multitude of clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities against Manchester United.
PSG midfielder Ander Herrera was not pleased with his club’s overall showing in the contest. He believes (via RMC Sport) that PSG had what it took to pick up all three points in the fixture, but the club failed to take advantage of its opportunities on the pitch.
“We scored the goal, we created the chances, De Gea made two or three good interventions and then they changed the system,” Herrera said. “I think the match changed afterwards.
“We must be very attentive. In this group, we cannot make many mistakes. We have to win now in Turkey, we have no possibility of not winning. We have time to prepare and analyze the match.”
As Herrera mentioned, PSG will take on Basaksehir F.K. in an away Champions League group stage fixture next week. Basaksehir F.K. is just coming off a 2-0 loss to RB Leipzig in its group stage opener, so like PSG, the Turkish side will be aiming to avoid back-to-back losses to begin this season’s Champions League group stage.
