Paris Saint-Germain center-back Presnel Kimpembe is in the right direction regarding his development as a defender. The French defender is slated to be a long-term starter for PSG, and he is currently competing for a permanent spot in France’s go-to starting lineup.
PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has been pleased with Kimpembe’s play as of late, and the defender’s national team manager is echoing the same feelings.
France national team manager Didier Deschamps included Kimpembe in the team’s squad list for its UEFA Nations League schedule this month. France is set to face Portugal and Croatia as Les Bleus aim to inch closer to clinching a spot in the Nations League knockout stage.
Deschamps has not revealed just which players will fill the two starting center-back spots for the team this month, but he does feel comfortable calling on Kimpembe to feature in key international matches. Deschamps spoke further (via RMC Sport) about Kimpembe’s improved play during a recent press conference.
“He gained in concentration and control,” Deschamps said. “I confirm what Thomas Tuchel says. He has not started every game, but he has started some too. There are only great games for the French team so it is worth better that it is efficient yes.”
Kimpembe has started in just two out of France’s last 14 fixtures.
