Former French Goalkeeper Explains Why Danilo Pereira Will be a Good Fit for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain surely had a number of workhorse midfielders on its wishlist over the recent summer transfer window. But in the end, the club settled on signing FC Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira on a season-long loan deal.

Pereira has not yet featured with PSG, but former club goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo is already confident that the Portuguese talent will be a good signing for the club. Alonzo believes that the caliber and prowess of Pereira’s play in the midfield will fill a need that the club had longed to shore up for a while now. Alonzo spoke further about Pereira to L’Equipe.

“Danilo is a profile it didn’t have, that it had been looking for a long time,” Alonzo said. “He is a less creative profile than the midfielders that PSG has at the moment, but he is a player who is intelligent in positioning, who has experience of high level.

“And once again it is an athletic profile that was lacking in the middle of PSG.”

Many PSG supporters and surely those within the club have likely already gotten to see a glimpse of Pereira’s play during Portugal’s recent 0-0 draw in UEFA Nations League group stage play against France. Pereira recorded three interceptions and four ground duels won during the fixture. PSG hopes Pereira will carry these kinds of performances over with his new club.
