Casemiro Downplays Rumors Linking Mbappe to Real Madrid

With the summer transfer window now closed for this year, the attention has now turned to next year in what could be a roller-coaster market period for many teams. For one, Real Madrid has been rumored to be one team that is planning to go all-out and sign several high-priced, world-class talents next year. The club is regularly linked with many superstar players, including current Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

According to a recent report from L’Equipe, Real Madrid is aiming to sign Mbappe in 2021. The PSG forward will then have just a year left on his contract, which would likely lower the asking price from PSG if a potential deal were to transpire. But for current Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro, he is not currently buying into the rumors linking his club to Mbappe. Casemiro recently spoke (via AS) about Mbappe and while he did not outright deny the links, the Brazilian midfielder is putting a halt to the rumors for now.

“He is a great player and in this club they talk about many names,” Casemiro said. “If Madrid signed all those who leave, we would have more than 100 players in the squad. Mbappe is not our player and I will talk about him when he is, if he is that one day he will be. I like him, but also Neymar, Coutinho … they are footballers of extreme quality and everyone loves it.”

The rumors and speculations surrounding Mbappe’s future with PSG is just beginning. Not only will Real Madrid monitor Mbappe’s contract situation with PSG, but other clubs may be closely watching as well.
