Paris Saint-Germain defender Alessandro Florenzi had a difficult decision to make over the recent summer transfer window. He had the opportunity to stay on with AS Roma, but PSG came calling for a season-long loan deal. In the end, Florenzi made the decision that he felt was best for his career and agreed to terms with PSG on the loan deal.
AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca was not a fan of Florenzi’s departure. While the Italian defender spent the latter half of last season with Valencia on a loan stint, Fonseca had plans to integrate him into his side for this season. He spoke (via Di Marzio’s official website) about Florenzi’s PSG move during a recent pre-match press conference.
“With the system we have, I wanted Florenzi to stay,” Fonseca said. “We discussed it, but he decided to go play for a club like PSG. I understand his decision.”
Had Florenzi stayed on with Roma, starting minutes may not have been a guarantee for him over this season. But with PSG, Florenzi has established himself as the go-talent for manager Thomas Tuchel out at the right-back position.
