Heading into the match against Stade de Reims, Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi hadn’t scored since February. The 27-year-old was non-existent during the restart of the UEFA Champions League last month and eventually rode the bench.
In manager Thomas Tuchel’s press conference, he admitted some concern for the lack of goals from Icardi but did state that they must remain calm over the matter.
The patience in Icardi paid off as he scored the two goals in the capital club’s win over Reim’s, and after the match, he spoke with Téléfoot to discuss his return to the score sheet.
“It was important for me to set these goals. I’m happy to score. I was calm during my period without scoring because I was helping the team defensively. Now we must continue. The suspension of Di Maria? Of course, he will change something because he is a great player. He shows it on the ground. I’m happy to create opportunities for my teammates,” Icardi said.
“We could have put others and folded the match faster, but satisfaction prevails all the same. Need to recruit in attack? It’s a question for the leaders; we are here to play.”
