Video: Leonardo on the Players That Tested Positive for Coronavirus and Questioning the Start Date of Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo made an appearance on Canal Football Club. One of the many topics that the 51-year-old touched was over the six players who contracted the coronavirus.

Leonardo comes to the players’ defense, as five of them traveled to the Spanish island of Ibiza for a family vacation. Stating that these are men with significant others and kids, they weren’t irresponsible in going to bars or clubs.

He then transitions over to the schedule from the Ligue de Football Professionnel. Leonardo states that clubs in other leagues competing in the UEFA Champions League don’t have to jump straight into the season.

“These are players who are in family with wife and child. Even Neymar, who is not married, was with his son and his father. I agree. I’m not too much of an Instagram fan. I am from another generation. It shows an image that does not represent reality. For me, the start of that is to organize the first day on the same day of the Champions League final,” Leonardo said.

“After our victory in the Coupe de la Ligue, the promotion was made on the first day of Ligue 1 and not on the Final 8 of the Champions League. It’s incomprehensible. Four players before the final, we were talking about postponing the match. It is not a sporting decision. It is not a sporting idea, but decisions are taken only on the organizational or political side, but not sporting. All the other major championships will start again on the 12-13 or the 18th, why France has not done it.”
