Video: Leonardo on the Departure of Thiago Silva

After Paris Saint-Germain fell to FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final, many believed that would mark the end of Thiago Silva with the capital club.

However, the 35-year-old displayed that he still had something left in the tank during the knock stages. As a result, Les Parisiens reportedly made a last-minute contract offer to their captain. Nonetheless, Silva and his representatives had agreed to a deal with Chelsea FC and couldn’t go back on their word.

In his appearance on Canal Football Club, Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, opened up about Silva’s departure.

“For Thiago Silva and maybe also for Cavani, the decision is not easy. They are total idols. You imagine Thiago Silva he remains. He gets hurt. We made the decision six months ago,” Leonardo said. “What this group did in the second half of the year was great. The last discussion with Thiago Silva, that was it. We want to keep a group. But he said no, he had already signed with Chelsea.”
