Video: Brazil National Team Manager Credits Himself for Discovering That Marquinhos Can Play in the Midfield

Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar Jr. and Marquinhos received call ups for the Brazil national football team as CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifiers get underway. The Seleção will take on Bolivia Oct. 9th and Peru Oct. 13th.

At his press conference where Goal relayed his words, Brazil manager, Tite, discussed the versatility of Neymar and Marquinhos, who can play as a center-back and in the midfield. Many credit PSG manager Thomas Tuchel for discovering that the 26-year-old had the capabilities of playing as a midfielder when needed.

However, Tite is crediting himself because he had Marquinhos playing in the midfield when he managed the player while at Sport Club Corinthians Paulista.

“In a short time, we will start a new campaign, and the challenge is to put the players in the positions they occupy in the club. At Paris-SG, Neymar played a winger, a diamond behind two attackers, and a false nine in a line of three. He also played behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1. He was used in several positions, which proves his versatility,” Tite said.

“I am the coach who started Marquinhos in the midfield when he was 17. I know him very well. He played right-back when needed, as well as in the center. He is very versatile.”
