Report: Zenit Saint Petersburg Interested in Draxler

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Julian Draxler has been rumored to depart from the club over the current transfer window, and now a surprise team is emerging as a surprise suitor. Russian Premier League side Zenit St. Petersburg is showing interest in signing Draxler, according to a report from Match TV‘s Nobel Arustamyan (via the Russian-based outlet Sport Express).

The report mentions that surprisingly, Zenit is in advanced negotiations to sign Draxler. Draxler is slated to become a free agent next year, so Zenit will not have to post a grand transfer fee to acquire him from PSG. It is unclear whether Draxler has any interest in signing with the Russian club.

While Zenit may be a surprise interested team in on Draxler, the club has shown in previous years that it can bring in notable talents. Over the past years, the club signed players such as Leandro Paredes, Malcom and Dejan Lovren. Most notably, Zenit acquired Malcom from FC Barcelona for a €40 million fee. So if needed, Zenit can shell out top money to acquire well-known players.
