Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes remains interested in acquiring current Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, according to a report from L’Equipe.
The report mentions that Rennes has already contacted Areola to seek his interest in possibly joining the club. Rennes club officials deem the Frenchman as an ideal talent to take over the reins as its starting goalkeeper. Per the report, a loan option could be on the table as the goalkeeper is looking for playing time. But at the moment, no serious negotiations between Rennes and PSG for the goalkeeper have been reported just yet.
Areola could view Rennes as a possible destination considering that the club will feature in the UEFA Champions League competition this upcoming season. Staying in his home country could also be a key factor in the goalkeeper’s interest in joining them.
Areola is coming off of a one-year loan stint with the reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid. With Thibaut Courtois as the team’s clear number one starter, Areola ended up playing in just nine fixtures in all competitions over the campaign.
Considering his vast experience with PSG and quality play as a goalkeeper, other teams could end up showing interest in acquiring Areola as well.
