Report: Puma Is Trying To Mediate the Conflict Between Neymar and Álvaro González

The altercation between Álvaro González and Neymar Jr. continues to linger as the Brazil international accused the Olympique de Marseille defender of making racist remarks towards him during Le Classique, two weeks ago.

Everyone has provided their two cents on the incident as to whether the 30-year-old made racial comments towards Neymar. Nonetheless, now the business side of football is coming to the equation to mediate the situation.

According to Diario AS, Puma is looking to intervene to resolve the matter to protect their brand. Neymar recently inked a deal earlier month to become the flag bearer for the German-based company. Furthermore, they’re the kit supplier for Marseille, so they find themselves in the middle of the issue from a business aspect.

However, with Marseille’s reported claims that the 28-year-old uttered a racist remark at Hiroki Sakai and Spanish media saying that he also said a homophobic insult towards González, one can understand why Puma is deciding to get involved.

Puma is trying to mediate an agreement to find a solution to the issue and have the case dismissed, considering it remains open in the Ligue de Football Professionnel Disciplinary Commission.

“Fearing unprecedented punishment in French football, the company led by Bjørn Gulden has set to work to try to convince Álvaro González that the best thing for both parties is to reach an agreement through mediation and that neither of the two players ends up sanctioned on Wednesday,” the Spanish media outlet wrote.

We’ll see what the LFP Disciplinary Commission decides to do with this case and if Puma can get their way.
