Report: PSG Interested in Diego Costa as a Possible Cavani Replacement

With the current transfer window set to close in less than a week, Paris Saint-Germain could soon be feeling the pressure to quickly fill team needs. For one, PSG is still looking to sign a backup center forward, and it has reportedly turned its attention to one La Liga talent.

PSG is exploring the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS.

Jorge Mendes, Costa’s agent, is seeking a suitor for the talent. Atletico is open to offloading Costa due to his underwhelming play since returning to the club, and also considering the fact that the forward will become a free agent next year.

On the other hand, PSG has been looking to sign a backup center forward considering that Edinson Cavani and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting each have officially departed from the club.

If Atletico is able to sell Costa to PSG or any other club for a reasonable transfer fee, the Spanish side will then turn its attention to pushing to sign Cavani.

Costa is years removed from his prime days, but he can be a reliable option off the bench for PSG manager Thomas Tuchel. A potential deal between PSG and Atletico Madrid will depend on just how much the latter side would want to receive from such an agreement. PSG currently does not have the budget to splash a formidable transfer fee to acquire a backup center forward, so Atletico can not become stubborn in its asking price if it aims to sell Costa to the Ligue 1 side.
