Report: PSG Interested in Diego Costa as a Possible Cavani Replacement

With the current transfer window set to close in less than a week, Paris Saint-Germain could soon be feeling the pressure to quickly fill team needs. For one, the club is still looking to sign a backup center-forward and now has been linked with one La Liga talent.

PSG is exploring the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS. Jorge Mendes, Costa’s agent, is seeking a suitor for the talent. Atletico is open to offloading Costa due to his underwhelming play since returning to the club and also considering the fact that the forward is set to become a free agent next year. On the other hand, PSG has been long looking to sign a backup center-forward considering that Edinson Cavani and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting each have officially departed from the club.

If Atletico is able to sell Costa to PSG or any other club for a reasonable transfer fee, the Spanish side will then turn its attention to signing Cavani.

Costa is now years removed from his prime days, but he can be a reliable option off the bench for manager Thomas Tuchel. A potential deal between both sides will depend on just how much Atletico is aiming to receive from a deal. PSG currently does not have the budget to splash a formidable transfer fee to acquire a backup center-forward, so Atletico can not become stubborn in its asking price if it aims to sell Costa to the Ligue 1 side.
