Report: PSG Could Be Targeting Torino Midfielder as a Backup Plan To Bakayoko

A few days ago, reports suggested that Chelsea FC midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko has become a top priority for Paris Saint-Germain with the transfer window closing in a week.

However, the capital club sporting director, Leonardo, isn’t putting all his chips into the Bakayoko basket. According to L’Equipe, the reigning Ligue 1 champions are showing interest in Soualiho Meïté of Torino FC as a backup target if a potential deal with Chelsea falls through.

The 26-year-old is familiar with the French league, considering he’s spent time with Lile OSC, AS Monaco, and FC Girondins de Bordeaux. Furthermore, Meïté is a Parisian, so a potential move to PSG would be a homecoming for the midfielder.

When it comes to cost, it could be a relatively cheaper purchase than Bakayoko. Transfermarkt sets Meïté’s value at €6-million, and the France international could be a low-cost purchase with a high upside.

Also, he checks off two things that Leonardo is looking for, his stature would bring some height to PSG’s midfield, and he currently plays in Italy. We’ll see if Les Parisiens decide to go with plan B instead of bringing in Bakayoko.
