Report: PSG Could Be Open to Selling Kehrer

In what would be a surprising move, Paris Saint-Germain may be open to selling defender Thilo Kehrer over the current transfer window, according to a report from L’Equipe.

The report mentions that PSG is in desperate need of accumulating €60 million from transfer sales over the ongoing transfer window. The club needs to garner this amount to limit the economic impact from the recent shutdown in play due to the coronavirus pandemic. If the PSG’s board is able to acquire this specific amount, the club does not aim to reinvest it into transfer acquisitions.

PSG views Kehrer among the players who could help the club rack up €60 million from transfer deals. The report alludes that new addition Alessandro Florenzi is seen as the new permanent right-back for manager Thomas Tuchel. Thus, playing time for Kehrer would merely come from appearances off the bench. Kehrer would like to stay with the club but also desires to regularly feature as he aims to continue to receive playing time with the German national team.

The report concludes by mentioning that if an English or German club aggressively pushes to sign Kehrer, PSG would seriously consider offloading the talent.

As mentioned, this move would be a shocking one considering the team’s current depth issues. If Kehrer departs from the club and Florenzi goes down with an injury, Tuchel may be forced to start the inexperienced Colin Dagba out at right-back. Kehrer also offers the club versatility due to his ability to also play the center-back position.

For the moment, no team has shown any serious reported interest in signing Kehrer. This could all change soon before the current transfer window closes in two weeks.
