Report: Monaco Considered Signing PSG Left-Back Bakker

AS Monaco has had a roller-coaster summer transfer window as the club addressed several needs within its club. The French side also aimed at signing a left-back and turned to one of its biggest rivals for one up-and-coming talent.

Monaco inquired on signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back Mitchel Bakker earlier in the current transfer window, according to a report from L’Equipe (via Le10Sport). Monaco had a need at the position, but in the end, the rebuilding side decided to not aggressively pursue Baker and instead attempt to sign another left-back on the market. The club wound up signing Caio Henrique, who was a product of Atletico Madrid’s youth system.

For the moment, it does not seem as if Monaco will reopen its interest in signing Bakker. Even if the club does, it would likely be met by a flat-out refusal by PSG. The club recently lost left-back Juan Bernat due to an ACL injury, so the club needs Bakker for depth over the remainder of the season. PSG has other issues to solve over the ongoing transfer market window and very likely does not want to create a new problem by selling Bakker.
