Report: Leonardo Aims to Sign a Defensive Midfielder to Keep Marquinhos at Center-Back

The clock is ticking for Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonard to add reinforcements to the club. The current summer transfer window closes in two weeks, and the team still has several holes that need to be filled. However, Leonardo is aiming to reach a resolution regarding one notable dilemma.

Leonardo wants to sign a defensive midfielder over the current transfer window in order to keep Marquinhos at his natural center-back position, according to a report from Le Parisien. The report alludes that Leonardo and manager Thomas Tuchel are at odds with this positional dilemma regarding Marquinhos. As he did last season, Tuchel is considering giving the Brazilian talent minutes as the team’s defensive midfield position. However, Leonardo much prefers to keep Marquinhos out at center-back instead.

With defender Thiago Silva no longer with the club, Marquinhos is currently playing out at center-back alongside Presnel Kimpembe. Tuchel kept Marquinhos in his usual center-back role in both of his Ligue 1 appearances so far this season. However, Tuchel is still open to playing Marquinhos out at the defensive midfield position this season, which could come in key fixtures where the German manager lines his side up in a 4-3-3 setup.

PSG has not been heavily linked to signing any particular defensive midfielder as of late, so it will be interesting to see just what Leonardo is planning to do to resolve this matter.
