Report: Gremio Offered Cavani a Contract Deal

As the current summer transfer window is set to close in two weeks, former Paris Saint-Germain forward and current free agent Edinson Cavani has now been receiving more and interest from clubs for a possible free transfer deal. One club just recently even went as far as offering Cavani a deal.

Brazilian club Gremio offered Cavani a free transfer contract deal, according to a report from Yahoo Esportes. The Brazilian side offered Cavani a €3.5 million per season deal, which would make him the highest-paid player in the Brasileiro Serie A. The report mentions that Cavani is open to signing with a South American team, but he much prefers to stay in Europe.

This proposal from Gremio is a slightly surprising one. Gremio’s president Romildo Bolzan just recently alluded to earlier this month that his side had no plans to show interest in Cavani since the club would not be able to compete with offers that the forward receives from European teams. But per the report, Gremio would get help from two business partners to help pay for Cavani’s wages.

Still, this offer is deemed to not be anywhere close to what Cavani is asking for. The Uruguayan talent has been demanding an offer of a €12 million net salary per year deal and even reportedly declined Juventus’ €6.5 million per year deal.

As of late, Cavani has been in talks with Atletico Madrid for a free transfer agreement, but no such deal has materialized just yet between the two sides.
