Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni surprisingly left out Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria from the squad list for the team’s upcoming international fixtures next month. At the least for Di Maria, he has support from his teammates, including Neymar.
Di Maria provided an interview with ESPN Argentina (via the Argentinian-based outlet Ole) where he talked about his displeasure with not being called up by Scaloni for the upcoming international games. Di Maria revealed what Neymar told him when he found out that the PSG playmaker was not among the players picked by Scaloni for the final squad list.
“Neymar tells me they’re all crazy in Argentina, he doesn’t understand what’s wrong with them,” Di Maria said. “I have a very good relationship [with Neymar], he sees it from the side that he sees me every day training and he sees my performance.”
While Di Maria has a good bond with Neymar, this is not the same as with Scaloni. Even with Scaloni not calling him up this time around to feature for the national team, Di Maria still wants to help and support the team down the road.
“I have a good relationship with him, he changed the relationship a little when he took over the national team because it is obvious that you can not maintain the same contact,” Di Maria said. “I started as a starter, there were bad games, and then I had to go to the bench. Every game that came after that, he congratulated me and told me that I was doing the team a lot of good. If I have to be a starter, fine, and if I have to go to the bench, I will support.”
For now, Di Maria is seeking to keep his current top form with PSG over the upcoming months with the hope that a national team call-up could soon come.
