Neymar and Mbappe Finish in Top 10 For UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award

Paris Saint-Germain forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe finished in the top 10 for the prestigious 2020 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award, the association announced on its official website.

Neymar tied FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi for fourth place with 53 votes. The Brazilian international was PSG’s top performer last season, as he led the side to a domestic treble-winning campaign and also tallied seven goal contributions in seven UEFA Champions League matches played. On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe finished in seventh place thanks to his stout 30-goal season, with five of them coming in the Champions League competition.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) were all named finalists for the award. Lewandowski is deemed to be the clear favorite to win the honor.

Thanks to PSG’s strong run in all competitions last season, manager Thomas Tuchel finished in fourth place in the voting for the 2020 UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year Award. Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp each were named finalists for the award, and one can make a strong case that Tuchel was more deserving of finishing alongside these two managers than RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann.
