It was not easy for Paris Saint-Germain, but at the end of the day, the side picked up all three points against Metz. The fixture was a must-win one for PSG after it had surprisingly lost back-to-back matches to start the new league season. In the end, PSG got the job done as midfielder Julian Draxler emerged as the hero for the team.
Draxler scored the late game-winner for PSG in what was a fixture where several players missed high-percentage goal-scoring opportunities earlier in the contest. Draxler recognized that PSG could have been much more efficient in front of the goal, but he is still pleased with the win. In speaking to PSG TV, the German midfielder reflected on the win.
“We created opportunities for ourselves but at the moment it’s a bit complicated because we are not 100%, that’s clear,” Draxler said. “But we still had the chance to score the goal earlier.
“Scoring in the first half would have made the game easier for us. You have to work hard and we did against Metz. In the dressing room, we were very happy because we made a great effort.”
Draxler also spoke about his goal in the match. He credited Angel Di Maria for jump-starting the goal-scoring sequence.
“We all know the quality of Angel Di Maria,” Draxler. “He did a magnificent control. It was also important that Icardi was there to hinder the goalkeeper. Then I had the chance to see the ball come out to me, even if it was on my head, which is not my specialty. But I scored, fortunately! I’m glad I was able to show that I can help the team.”
PSG will take on OGC Nice up next, as the side is aiming to make it back-to-back league wins.
