‘I Haven’t Heard From Celtic, but I Want to Stay With PSG’ – Bakker on the Rumors Linking Him to the Scottish Club

Scottish Premiership club Celtic FC has a keen interest in Mitchel Bakker. They’ve made two offers to try and lure the 20-year-old left-back to head to Scotland.

However, the first offer, a loan type deal, was reportedly shot down by Paris Saint-Germain. Then there’s the second approach that Celtic is launching, but there no details surrounding this offer, whether it’s a loan or an outright purchase.

Nonetheless, Bakker hasn’t heard from the Scottish club when it comes to an offer. Furthermore, the Netherlands international doesn’t have much interest in joining Celtic and prefers to remain with Les Parisiens, which Bakker made clear in a NOS interview.

“I haven’t heard from Celtic, but I want to stay with PSG, and my hope is to have even more playing time,” Bakker said. “When I look at the club, I see players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. And I play with them. Normally, at such a young age as mine, you don’t experience that, so I want to take advantage of it. I played in both national cup finals at the end of the season, and I think I did well. I learned a lot from Thiago Silva before he left for Chelsea.”

No question playing with superstar players like Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé helps his development. Also, going up against these types of talent in practice is another that Bakker can better develop, and perhaps he sees this as a better way to grow rather than playing big minutes in Scotland.

Also, it’s not as though Bakker is buried on the depth chart at left-back. Juan Bernat is on the last year of his contract, and Layvin Kurzawa is often injured, there’s a clear path for the young defender to earn minutes as soon as this upcoming season.
