Gremio President Rules Out Signing Former PSG Forward Cavani

Former Paris Saint-Germain forward and current free agent Edinson Cavani is still looking for a new club. At the least, it is safe to say that he will not be signing with Brasileiro Serie A side Gremio anytime soon.

The Uruguayan forward has been linked to Gremio for a possible free transfer move. However, Gremio president Romildo Bolzan has denied any such rumors that his club is seriously interested in signing the Ligue 1 legend.

In an interview with the Brazilian-based outlet Zero Hora (via Fox Sports Brazil), Bolzan touched on why this possible transfer move will not come to fruition.

“This is an issue that we should not even feed the fan’s dream,” Bolzan said. “Cavani is a player who has proposals from about ten European clubs, all superior to what any Brazilian club can afford.”

Cavani’s high wage demands are the main reason why he has not yet signed with a team. Portuguese side S.L. Benfica was the last team to express a strong interest in signing Cavani, but it ended its pursuit of the forward after deciding not to meet his wage demands.

Juventus was recently linked with the forward, but there have been no reports stating that the reigning Serie A winners have engaged in contract talks with the veteran goal-scorer.
