Former Argentine Forward Does Not Believe Icardi Is a Good Fit for PSG

Mauro Icardi has so far had a roller-coaster run at Paris Saint-Germain.

Icardi put together multiple promising performances over much of his first season at PSG, but since last season’s UEFA Champions League knockout stage, it has gone downhill for the forward. The Argentine played in just one match in the Champions League knockout stage and so far this season, he has failed to score in Ligue 1 play.

Add the high expectations that were placed on Icardi when PSG signed him, and it is clear why some club supporters are beginning to show their frustrations toward him. For instance, former Argentine forward Omar da Fonseca is not much of a fan of Icardi and just how he fits with PSG.

In an interview with Le Parisien, Da Fonseca talked about multiple prolific Argentine talents from over the years, and of course, the former PSG forward was asked about Icardi. Da Fonseca touched on just why Icardi and PSG are not a formidable fit for each other.

“I do not understand that a team of the level of PSG has opted for a player so specifically a scorer,” Da Fonseca said. “He is a player who has no dribbling, no ball coverage, is not powerful and does not go fast. He certainly scores goals, up close.

“But I believe that PSG must have a center forward who shines more than Icardi, like Lewandowski or Suarez.”

Icardi certainly has a long way to go before he can be compared to Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez. At the least, PSG sure hopes that Icardi can soon emerge as a reliable goal-scorer for the club. The talent is certainly there for him to do just that.
