Di Maria on Why He Deserves a Place in the Argentina National Team and How he Attempted to Convince Messi to Join PSG

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria is not one to give exclusive and in-depth interviews very much. But when he does, the Argentine is sure to be outspoken and honest about his thoughts on whatever the topic may be.

Di Maria recently spoke to the Argentine-based station Continental and among the topics that he hit on, he expressed his disappointment with the recent Argentina national team squad list. Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni left Di Maria out of the squad list for the team’s upcoming international fixtures next month. Di Maria has been in top form for PSG over the past year, so the decision was puzzling to the midfielder.

“If I’m not called, it is because they don’t want to call me, but I will keep fighting to be in the Argentina national team,” Di Maria said. “Many say that I’d old at 32 but I still run the same way and I can be at the same level as Mbappe and Neymar.”

Di Maria also admitted that he made an attempt to bring FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to PSG earlier this month. While it was not a grand attempt, Di Maria still showed interest in getting his longtime national team counterpart to sign with PSG during his difficult time with Barcelona’s board.

“The first thing I sent Messi when I found out he didn’t want to continue at Barcelona was an Instagram capture where I told him how PSG could play with Messi,” Di Maria said.

Of course, the attempt did not work, as Messi stayed with Barcelona. But an attack featuring Messi, Di Maria, Neymar and Mbappe would have been a spectacle to watch.
