Paris Saint-Germain defender Mitchel Bakker is just coming off of his first season with the club, but he is already beginning to receive attention regarding his potential. The Italian-based outlet Tuttosport listed Bakker among 40 young talents up for the 2020 Golden Boy Award.

Tuttosport is among the outlets that vote for the award, which recognizes the most prolific U-21 talent within Europe over the calendar year.

It is notably a surprise to see Bakker in the shortlist considering that he has not received much playing time as of late. The Dutch talent has made just seven appearances in all competitions this year. However, he was a standout performer in the club’s Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue final wins. He played the entirety of both fixtures and added to his trophy case that already included a Ligue 1 title.

Bakker is not expected to finish in the top 10 for the voting considering that the shortlist is filled with stout talents such as the likely favorite in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. Former PSG talents Adil Aouchiche and Tanguy Kouassi also made the shortlist for the award. But for Bakker, this is a quality achievement in his career thus far and one that he should build off of for an improved campaign this season.
