Atalanta BC’s Gian Piero Gasperini is preparing his squad to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. However, in preparation for the match, the 62-year-old did take some time to interview with L’Equipe.
Despite only having seven points during the group stage, Atalanta was able to advance into the Round of 16. There they met Valencia CF, where La Dea came out on top by an aggregate score of 8-4. Gasperini spoke about how his club has reached this point in the European competition.
“At the start, the Champions League was very difficult. It was a huge impact. Our club had never been in the competition before, and we had huge difficulties, Gasperini. Then, the team was able to adapt to a competition, which is much more difficult than Serie A, which is much more competitive. And we managed to have very good results,” Gasperini said.
“So here we are in this match against PSG. It is a historic meeting for us, it is a great source of pride for a small town like Bergamo, to take part in an event like this. But, on the other hand, the tough times we had at the start of the competition give us hope to succeed in qualifying.”
