When Qatar Sports Investment took over in 2011, the goal for Paris Saint-Germain was to dominate domestically, but have their eyes on a bigger prize, the UEFA Champions League.
After PSG defeated RB Leipzig 3-0, Les Parisiens move to one win away from winning the club’s first Champions League trophy. Capital club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke with the media where Canal Supporters relayed his words.
The 46-year-old discussed how winning over Leipzig and advancing to the final is the biggest night in the history of the PSG-QSI era.
“Yes, it’s historic for us and for the club, it’s the first Champions League final. It’s a wonderful evening. The players had a perfect match tonight against a not easy team,” Al-Khelaifi said. “I am proud and happy of this evening of my players and my technical staff. We played a great game after difficult situations, but we’re still here, we don’t want to come back to Paris, and we want to stay for the final.
Al-Khelaifi then reflected on PSG, making their first Champions League final.
“Honestly, it’s a dream. But this dream will continue. We deserve to celebrate this evening in this historic and magnificent evening. I don’t have the words, but it’s a wonderful evening for us,” Al-Khelaifi said.
The PSG president then transitioned to talking about the capital club supporters, who couldn’t make this trip but celebrated in Paris.
“For me and the club, the joy of the supporters is important. It is true that they are not here (in Lisbon), but they are there with the heart,” Al-Khelaifi said. “It is also a victory for our supporters because they have been waiting for this historic evening for a long time. It’s also for you because we’ve fought a lot since 2011. Our dream was the Champions League. We are close to our dream. ”
With the final on Sunday, the media wanted to know if Al-Khelaifi had a pre-game speech to tell the squad.
“I told them they had a great game, but we don’t want to stop here and continue to the end,” Al-Khelaifi said. “I do not want to say what will be the result (of the final), but we will fight for the final because we deserve this trophy. We want to go as far as possible, but in football, you have to give everything. I am very proud of them.”
