‘They Are a Very Offensive Side’ — Herrera on What to Expect from RB Leipzig in Champions League Semi-Final

From a mentality standpoint, Paris Saint-Germain is showing tremendous growth in this season. For a team well-known for late-game collapses in big fixtures, PSG has delivered in clutch situations over this year’s UEFA Champions League knockout stage. The narrative began to flip following its comeback win over Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16 stage earlier this year.

Ander Herrera did not feature in either game of the Round of 16 tie against Dortmund but was pleased to see the team pull through for the win. In speaking to PSG TV, Herrera reflected on the massive tie victory.

“I think everyone could see after the game against Borussia Dortmund that something special had happened,” Herrera said.

Next up for PSG is a semifinal tie against RB Leipzig. The German side is coming off of an upset win over Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinal round. Herrera went in-depth about what could be expected from them.

“We have watched this Leipzig side,” Herrera said. “They played fantastically against Atletico de Madrid.  We saw a Leipzig side play with a lot of confidence, with defenders stepping forward with the ball into midfield. They are a very offensive side, very brave that create a lot of chances. We will have to defend very well. We respect them and need to prepare very well.”

Attacking talent Angel Di Maria will feature against Leipzig after missing out on the quarterfinal tie due to a yellow card accumulation suspension. Herrera is not only confident in his team’s chances of advancing due to the Argentine’s return but also because of the plethora of world-class talents upfront as well.

“Obviously Di Maria is an important player who scores a lot of goals and provides a lot of assists,” Herrera said. “But I don’t want to talk about just one player. We can play in different formations and with different players. There’s not only Di Maria, there’s Kylian who is coming back, Neymar Jr had an incredible game, Choupo changed the match, Pablo Sarabia is very reliable. Mauro Icardi was also fantastic against Atalanta. We have confidence in what we can achieve.”

A win for PSG on Tuesday will pit them against either Bayern Munich or league rivals Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League final.
