Silva Ends PSG Career With Loss in 2020 Champions League Final

Thiago Silva’s run with Paris Saint-Germain has come to an end. In his final game with PSG, the club was defeated by FC Bayern Munich in the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final by a 1-0 final score.

Silva had a strong showing against the reigning Bundesliga champions. He recorded six clearances, one interception and one tackle completed. For a Bayern team that came into the fixture with 18 goals scored in this season’s knockout stage, it sure was an impressive feat from Silva and his backline to hold the reigning Bundesliga champions to a mere one goal and two shots on target in the final.

PSG decided back in June that it would not extend Silva’s contract past this season. Thus, Silva’s run with the club has come to a disappointing end.

His next destination will likely be the Premier League. According to Sky Sport’s Fabrizio Romano, Silva is in talks with Chelsea for a free agent deal. Silva has had experience in going up against Premier League sides, but he has never played in the league.

Silva ends his PSG career as arguably the greatest center-back in the team’s history. The Brazilian defender won 25 trophies during his tenure with the club, including seven Ligue 1 titles. He also appeared in 314 games with PSG, which ranks seventh all-time in the club’s history.

While he did not end up earning a Champions League winners’ medal, Silva will still be remembered as not only a PSG great but also as one of the greatest defenders in Ligue 1 history.
