Report: Verratti Likely Will Not Start in Champions League Final Against Bayern Munich

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti likely will not start in the 2020 UEFA Champions League Final against FC Bayern Munich, according to a report from Le Parisien.

Verratti missed PSG’s Champions League quarterfinal contest against Atalanta due to a calf injury, but he made his return to action in the semifinal matchup against RB Leipzig. The Italian midfielder recorded 14 touches and completed 12 passes in the 3-0 win over the Bundesliga side.

While Verratti recently returned to training, he still is not expected to start against Bayern Munich. Per the report, Verratti has recovered from his calf injury and there have been no reports of any setbacks with his ailment. However, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is leaning toward leaving Verratti on the bench to start the contest because of a “lack of rhythm.”

Verratti has not made a start for PSG since the Coupe de la Ligue final against Olympique Lyonnais last month.

With the Champions League final just days away, Verratti still has time to prove to the coaching staff that he is more than ready to start against Bayern.
