Paris Saint-Germain’s contract extension talks with left-back Juan Bernat are currently at a standstill, according to a report from RMC Sport.
The report mentions that discussions between PSG and Bernat’s camp are surprisingly not going well. The two sides have not made much progress on a deal as of late and it is not because both were focused on the recent UEFA Champions League run. Instead, the reason for the current standstill is because Bernat is currently seeking more than what PSG expected he would ask of. The report does not specifically mention whether Bernat wants more money in the deal or more years added in as his current contract expires next year.
Bernat is seeking more in contract extension talks because his value rose up over the recent Champions League knockout stage. PSG would have no arguments here, as Bernat did elevate his play in the team’s biggest games of the season. Bernat scored against Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig in the knockout stage, which was then followed up by a quality showing in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
It will be interesting to see if both sides will be able to come to terms on an agreement before the new season kicks off.
