Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has played his final game with the club and will not return next season, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet AS.
Rodriguez last featured for Real Madrid in a La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad. Since then, the Colombian has either been on the bench or ruled out as a healthy scratch. He even went as far as asking the coaching staff to not feature him in an early July contest against Athletic Bilbao, per the report. His wish was granted and the team chose not to rely on him anymore for the remainder of the season.
The report mentions that Real Madrid will now listen to offers for Rodriguez, who now has a year left on his contract. This is a different tone from the club as it reportedly refused to offload the midfielder last summer. Rodriguez’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is now attempting to find a suitable team to take him in. The report throws out Premier League side Arsenal as a possible destination for Rodriguez, although there have been no reports indicating that the reigning FA Cup champions are interested in a possible deal.
PSG is a side that has been linked with Rodriguez. Leonardo, the club’s sporting director, and Mendes reportedly had brief discussions over Rodriguez with the agent going far as offering the talent to PSG. So far, there have been no reports of Leonardo embarking in serious negotiations for the current Real Madrid talent.
As mentioned, the Colombian international is a year away from becoming a free agent. Thus, any potential transfer deal for the talent would not be as expensive compared to if he had multiple years left on his current deal.
