Paris Saint-Germain is monitoring the ongoing off-field saga between FC Barcelona and forward Luis Suarez, according to a report from the Spanish-based outlet Sport.
New Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman does not view Suarez in his plans for next season. In the case that Barca’s board and Suarez agree to a buyout, PSG would be interested in signing the Uruguayan forward on a free transfer. However, the report mentions that PSG’s board has not reached out to Suarez to begin laying out the framework for a potential free agent deal.
The report also adds that Neymar would be in favor of the club bringing in Suarez. The two formed strong on-field chemistry during their three seasons together with Barcelona.
Suarez recently finished off his worst season with the Catalan club. He scored 21 goals in all competitions and looked like a shell of his former self. He also dealt with multiple injuries that ruled him out for a number of fixtures over the campaign, including missing eight league games following knee surgery in January.
With Edinson Cavani and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting no longer with the club, PSG’s board could look to Suarez as a possible depth option for the forward position. At the age of 33, Suarez still has much left in the tank to play for a top team within Europe’s top five leagues.
For now, PSG will just wait to see if Suarez will end up leaving the Catalan side.
